Mission Objective:
To exploit any means necessary to provide our delicious Flaming Amy’s salsas
to the brave men and women serving our country in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Spicy Forces Unit:
Operation Salsa Drop is a non-profit organization created by Jay and Amy Muxworthy, owners of Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn and its sister restaurant, Flaming Amy’s Bowl, located in Wilmington, N.C.
The inspiration for Operation Salsa Drop came through social networking. Flaming Amy's Facebook page has over 7,000 "fans" from all over the globe. On April 17th 2010, we received a followup comment on a post we had made about our salsas. Army private Justin Young, who was serving at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, jokingly asked if we could ship some salsa to him. We told him that if we could figure out a way to get it there, we would happily ship him enough to feed an Army. And so Operation Salsa Drop began.
OSD has three varieties of salsa to choose from:
“Fire in the Hole!” - Flaming Hot Salsa
“Shock 'N' Awesome” - Pineapple Jalapeno Salsa
“TARFU” - Traditional Tomato
All three salsas are packaged in 12oz glass jars and are being sold for $4.50 each. All proceeds from the retail sales go towards production and distribution of these same salsas to the boots on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our goal is to ship one jar to a soldier for every jar sold!
Operation Salsa Drop Wants You!
There are many ways you can help our cause.
1) Buy Our Salsa!: By simply purchasing and indulging in some of our delicious salsa, a portion of your money automatically goes into the production and distribution of salsa to the troops. See our Retail Orders page to order your salsa and/or T-shirts. A tasty way to show your support!
2) Free Salsa for a Soldier: Are you currently deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq? Do you have a friend or loved one who is? Do you think they would like to receive a care package from OSD? Simply email us your request with their name and APO/FPO address! Your request will be placed on our waiting list . All requests will be filled in the order they are received as funds become available for production and shipping.
3) Salsa Drop Sponsorship: We have been collecting names and APO / FPO addresses of soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan and Iraq that would like to receive a care package containing OSD salsa. A $15.00 Donation will cover the cost of the shipping and handling for one of these care packages. When we receive your $15.00 donation, a mixed case of OSD salsa containing 4 bottles of each flavor will be sent to the the next soldier on our list. A certificate bearing your name (or company name) will be enclosed in the package, and you will be notified by email when the package has been shipped. See our Donation Orders page to sponsor the shipping of a package.
4) Spicy Forces Sponsorship: A $45.00 donation will cover the cost of the production of a case of salsa and the shipping and handling of a care package sent to the soldier of your choice. When we receive your $45.00 donation, you will be asked to enter the APO / FPO address of a friend or loved one currently serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. A mixed case of OSD salsa containing 4 of each flavor salsa, will then be shipped to that specific soldier. A certificate bearing your name (or company name) will be enclosed and you will receive an email when the package has been shipped. See our Donation Orders page to sponsor a package to your soldier.
5) Cash Donation: If you don’t want any salsa and you don’t know anyone currently serving in Afghanistan or Iraq you can still help our cause. Simply make a cash donation. All cash donations will be used to fund the production and distribution of OSD salsa care packages to the soldiers on our waiting list. See our Donation Orders page to contribute.
Operation Salsa Drop is currently in its early stages of operation. As we grow and expand we plan to add a variety of salsas, dressings, and sauces to our lineup. We also hope to be able to donate larger quantities of OSD salsa directly to the Military for use in kitchens and mess halls on base.
Additional retailers are also being considered. Currently we are only interested in vendors that are willing to sell the salsa at a marginal profit. By lowering the profit margins of the retailers, we hope to achieve our goal of supplying the maximum amount of salsa to the troops possible. As our production increases, we may be able to offer retailers larger discounts.
